Melissa Inkster

Meet Melissa, her Registered Endorsed Midwife.
Best described as positive and friendly, we love the can-do attitude Melissa brings to every day. Melissa’s vast experience covers postnatal care and support, lactation, neonatal resuscitation, and
antenatal care. She retains experience in both public and private settings and has worked across all
areas of midwifery including birthing, home visitation, in antenatal and postnatal wards, special care nursery, women’s assessment, family clinic, and theatre; whilst at the Lyell McEwin Hospital.

Midwifery offers Melissa the opportunity to fulfil her passion for supporting and educating women through
their pregnancy journies. She holds a certificate in High-risk Pregnancy from the Women’s and Children’s Hospital, a Midwifery Graduate Certificate in Diagnostics and Prescribing from Flinders University and obtained her lactation consultation qualification through the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners in 2020.

When not at her, Melissa loves nothing more than spending time outdoors—hiking, walking, you name it. She also loves to renovate and has been volunteering with the Country Fire Service since 2007.

FAQs

  • Can I see Melissa for antenatal care?

Yes, Melissa provides antenatal care for women wanting thoughtful support through pregnancy. This can include education, monitoring, guidance around what to expect, and space to ask questions as your pregnancy progresses. For many women, that steady support can make the experience feel calmer and easier to navigate.
  • Does Melissa offer postnatal support?

Yes, postnatal care and support are a major part of Melissa’s experience. The early weeks after birth can bring recovery, feeding questions, emotional adjustment and many practical concerns all at once. Melissa helps women feel more reassured and supported through that transition, with care that is responsive to both mother and baby.
  • Can Melissa Inkster help with breastfeeding and lactation?

Yes, Melissa holds a lactation consultation qualification through the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners, which means women can seek her support for breastfeeding and lactation concerns as part of their postnatal care. This can be especially valuable when feeding feels harder than expected or when reassurance and practical guidance are needed early on.
  • Is Melissa only focused on routine pregnancies?

No, Melissa also holds a certificate in High-risk Pregnancy from the Women’s and Children’s Hospital, which adds another layer to her experience. While every woman’s situation is different, this background can be especially reassuring for those wanting a midwife with exposure to both straightforward and more medically involved pregnancy care.
  • Can I see Melissa if I’m simply feeling nervous about pregnancy or early motherhood?

Absolutely. A lot of women seek midwifery support not only for clinical care, but also for reassurance, guidance and a sense of steadiness through a time that can feel new and overwhelming. Melissa is known for her positive, friendly nature and her practical, can-do approach, which can help women feel more at ease.
  • What kind of care can a midwife offer after birth?

A midwife can support women after birth with recovery, feeding, newborn care, emotional wellbeing and the many questions that arise once you are home with a baby. Melissa’s background across postnatal care, lactation and special care nursery experience means she understands just how much support can matter during this stage.
